From Legacy of Dracula

Matthew grew up in Derby, son of Geraldine Shine and Ben Cornish. After leaving school he took a year out which he spent busking across Europe, and returned significantly richer. He has now (October 2008) enrolled at Lancaster University, studying music.

He grew up with his mother, until the age of 11 when he investigated and found his biological father. He then spent time with both parents, and seems to have fit in well with both social circles. His mother attempted to stop this after Matthew received several cautions for petty theft and vandalism, but was apparently unsuccessful.

Enlightenment

Matthew was seen talking to the Dark Marketeer, but there is no suggestion he is aware of its nature. He is more likely (we believe) to have spent his year in europe practising his father's trade as a thief and con-artist.

He was killed in an explosion triggered by Mew Mew Mew, during a fight with Jaye Hollow on December 13th 2008 (s4e10).
